The metK gene encodes a methionine adenosyltransferase (SAM synthetase) from Streptomyces spectabilis that catalyzes the formation of S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAM) from L-methionine and ATP. Heterologous expression of metK in Escherichia coli increases the intracellular SAM pool available for SAM-dependent product synthesis [348].
